It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
