The artist has given the full amount of his £25,000 award winnings to the trust for venues, which functions to protect the UK's independent live music spots.

Fender was given the award on October 16 as his latest record the album was named the best record of the previous year.

Fender has opted to give the cash to the trust, in recognition of the essential function grassroots venues had in his beginning days.

"I would not have achieved what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the shows I played around the region, and further afield, when I was beginning," said Sam Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, well-known musicians such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to support the industry, by adding a small levy to their admission fees, which supports independent venues.

Sam Fender also joined in, raising over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to support 38 grassroots venues across Britain.

These funds assisted locations that were confronting imminent closure due to issues caused by flooding, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, court cases and neighbor objections.

Some locations were granted monetary aid in upgrading amenities and gear that directly benefitted musicians and concertgoers.

"The notion that revenue from performances in major spaces supports the independent spots, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just logical," Fender has stated.

He is not the first artist to contribute his honor funds to good deeds.

Back when the band earned the prize in 1996 for their record the album, vocalist Jarvis Cocker announced that the band would contribute their prize money to the charity War Child.

That year, artist Ms Dynamite shared her prize between a few organizations, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I gave a £1,000 to the center, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed new equipment," she told a publication.

In recent years, Ezra Collective contributed their winnings to the community center that developed their group, as well as other independent music bodies.

Also the 1994 recipients they donated their award to a MS organization after a close contact was identified with the condition.

"The victory was sufficient," said artist Heather Small. "The cash was the extra but we didn't require the extra, because we had the cake. So our winning impacted another person's life."

In the past week, the MVT shared it had protected a couple of small stages in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

One venue in that area and the other in that location were bought under the community ownership scheme, which is funded by a national body and supporters who acquire "stakes" in the buildings.
