Devastating Update on UPS Incident: Death Toll Climbs to 13

The number of lives lost from the UPS cargo plane which caught fire and went down has now climbed to 13, per official statements.

Official's Remarks

While en route to the Workers’ memorial service, I learned of a thirteenth victim that died as a consequence of the UPS flight 2976 crash,” expressed the local official in a online message. “My prayers are with the families, companions and colleagues of all who were killed in this recent disaster. We will overcome this as one.”

“Our thoughts reach out to each staff member who has been impacted and everyone in our local community – supporting you and ensuring you obtain the care and aid you need is our focus,” the firm’s message stated.

Inquiry Updates

Government investigators announced that the UPS cargo plane’s wing ignited and an engine detached just after departure from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, causing the jet to crash and burst into a fireball.

The National Transportation Safety Board stated it is probing the aircraft’s maintenance history, which was in the state for fixes weeks before the crash.

Flight tracking data indicated the plane was on the tarmac in that location from 3 September to mid-October.

“We are cognizant that this aircraft was located in that city,” remarked an investigator on Thursday, without providing a precise time frame. “We will review every piece of service that was performed, from the San Antonio visit, straight to the date of the journey.”

Recovery of Critical Evidence

The audio device and information unit were recovered, and the engine was found on the airfield.

The units – called flight recorders – were constructed to survive crash impacts and intense heat from blazes, and they appeared to be intact when located within the crash debris. Officials intend to analyzing information from the black boxes.

The plane’s concluding data recordings displayed an elevation of 475 feet and a rate of that speed before the crash.

Repair Background

Based on aviation authority documents dated last month, a crack on a component in the center wing fuel tank required maintenance.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which said it provides aircraft servicing for UPS’s aircraft and manages a service location in that city, chose not to speak, but stated it would work closely when investigators contacted it.

Activities Resume

Meanwhile, UPS Worldport services restarted that evening with its Next Day Air or night sort process, official Jim Mayer said. Each of the three landing strips at the airport were likewise back in operation.

The UPS package handling facility in the city is the organization’s most significant. The hub hires in excess of 20,000 people in the region, manages numerous flights daily and processes in excess of 400,000 items each hour.

Public Reaction

A candlelight vigil was organized on the night of 6 November by the local labor union, which represents employees at the aviation hub, the firm’s biggest air cargo hub.

The union chapter, which supports UPS workers, began the memorial with a moment of silence at that time, the approximate time of the incident previously.

“This event was so unexpected, so unforeseen,” the official spoke to the assembly of attendees. “No one had a moment to say goodbye to each of those who we have said farewell to.”
